St. Moritz, Switzerland – Perfect both during summer and winter! Travel by caravan.

Many travel to the Swiss alps during winter season. It’s beautiful with lots of ski destinations and great conditions.

This year we had our Swiss adventure during summertime! Highly recommendable!

On the road again – Maloja Pass

We drove up the Maloja Pass, from Lake Como. A really curvy and steep road up the mountain! Should definitely stopped and taken some photos down the road!

After the Maloja Pass we drove past Silsersee and Silvaplanersee. The first campsite we got to, Camping Silvaplana was packed with people enjoying the beautiful green water.

The campsite

Our plan was to stay closer to the center of St. Moritz, and we ended up at TCS Camping St.Moritz. https://www.tcs.ch/de/camping-reisen/camping-insider/campingplaetze/tcs-campingplaetze/campingplatz-st.-moritz.php

The campsite was big and clean. Hot showers was included and they offered washing machines for a small amount. Perfect! They even had a heart starter! We stayed there for two nights.

Getting familiar with the area

The day we arrived we took a small bike ride near the campsite on the many hiking and biking paths available in the area. 11 km ride with lowest point at 1769m down by lake St.Moritz to 2020m east of the campsite.

As you can see by the map of the bike ride, the temperature was refreshingly cold that evening! Coming from warm summer temperatures in Italy it was really nice to be able to take a long warm shower after the ride!

Day 2 – Mountainbiking in the alps

The next day we decided to go on a bike ride up the mountains.
We aimed at a mountain and turned as we reached a turning point. Just like we often do when driving around in our motorhomes. Right or left? It all depends on the weather and what opportunities we see 🙂

We got to a mountain hut on top of an elevator overlooking the valley. Cows where grazing and the grass was green. We headed along the path – Up up it goes!

Saw some really good mountain bikers heading down the VM-trail, jumping and turning like it was the easiest thing to do! Have to do some seriously training to be able to do something similar! 🙂

Time for lunch in the mountain

As we reached Alpina Hütte above mount Corviglia we desided to have lunch. 2.533 meter above sea level was the highest destination of the day.

Look at this place!

The soup was extremely tasty! Also tried the hot Ovomaltine with rum to get another local touch. Must say i prefer a standard Heise chocolate mit rum (Lumumba) (a) 🙂

Another way to get to this alpine hut is to take the Corviglia Cable Car to the top. From there it is takes about 10 minute walk to the Alpinahütte.

Downhill it goes!

We took another way down, getting more fantastic views! Snow, mountainsides, small rivers, flowers, and more cows. We past another alpina hut next to a small gondola.

A 22,5 km bike ride in fantastic nature, with lowest point at 1767 m down by lake St.Moritz to 2.533 m above mount Corviglia.

We cycled through St. Moritz on our way back. Some went to the food store, some went shopping and some went back to the campsite. Even though we travel as a group it doesn’t mean that everybody has to do the same all the time! 🙂

After a great day in the mountains it was nice to relax back at the campsite.

If you like hiking or mountain biking this is definitely a place to visit! Would love to see this place during winter to. Maybe this will be the next destination for our week in the alps during winter?

We’ve had a great couple of days in St. Moritz and can highly recomend it to everybody! 😀

  1. Seems like you had two woderful days in St.Moritz. We stayed one night in Silvaplana this summer and I think we biked the same paths you did at your first day. A beautiful place.

    1. Nice! 😃 Yes, it’s many trails connected enabling you to take short or longer routes, steep or flat, and it went all the way to Silvaplana.
